Selfwritten
Privacy Policy
Effective October 31, 2026
Selfwritten is built to keep your words private. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
The short version
Your cards, identity statements, values, goals, journal, letters and recordings stay on your device and in your private iCloud. We cannot read them. We do not sell or share your personal information, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.
What you create
Everything you write, photograph, record or add is stored on your device and synced through your iCloud account, which Apple protects. We do not operate a server that stores your content.
Purchases
Apple processes all payments. We use RevenueCat to confirm whether your device has an active Premium purchase. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app identifier and your purchase records from Apple, never your name, card details or content.
Writing features
When you tap Polish or Create it for me, and only after you agree on the screen that explains it, the text you entered (or the feelings you picked) is sent over an encrypted connection to our server and on to OpenAI to generate a suggestion. It is processed only to return that suggestion, is not used by us for any other purpose, and is not stored or logged by us. To keep use fair, our server also checks with RevenueCat that Premium is active and keeps an anonymous daily count, which is deleted within two days. OpenAI’s API data policies apply; OpenAI does not use API data to train its models by default. This processing takes place in the United States. You can turn writing help off at any time in Settings → Sound and writing help.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers, only to run the features described here: Apple (payments, iCloud storage and sync, crash reports), RevenueCat (confirming Premium), OpenAI (writing suggestions) and Cloudflare (hosting our writing server and this website). They process data on our behalf and may do so in the United States and other countries where they operate.
Diagnostics
If you allow it in iPhone Settings, Apple shares anonymous crash reports with us to fix bugs. They do not include your content.
Device permissions
Photos (to add images and video), microphone (for recordings), notifications (for morning and evening reminders and letters) and Face ID (to lock the app). Face ID is handled entirely by your device; we never receive biometric data. You can change these permissions in iPhone Settings.
Deleting your data
You can delete any item in the App, start a new season, or use Settings → Your data → Erase all my data, which removes your content from this device, your other devices and iCloud. Deleting the App’s iCloud data in iPhone Settings → your name → iCloud also removes it.
This website
selfwritten.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party trackers. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs for security.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your data. Because your content stays in your iCloud, you control it directly. For questions, email support@selfwritten.app.
Children
Selfwritten is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
We will post changes here and tell you in the App about significant ones.
